Ford 4.0 l Vin "X"

Ran into this thought I would pass it along. Replaced a 1998 4.0 l Vin "X" with a 2000 4.0 l. Unfortunately the cam sensor on the 98 was a hall-effect type and the one on the 2000 was a variable reluctance type. When swapping engines in any vehicle always replace the the sensors on the new engine with the sensors from the old engine. Had I paid more attention I would have saved myself a days worth of work.

Great!
This is one of those things that happen more then anyone will talk about! You are correct, with checking out all compatibility of engine and electronics during engine swaps and so on. I see this all the time with students changing engines in Honda and other imports. Good Job of bringing this point to the table.

Any time that you're swapping an engine for a used one you run the risk of compatibility issues. Even when sticking to the correct year there are mid-year injector changes (any component for that matter) and calibrations that can be a real bugger to diagnose. depending on what has changed, they can be a real pain to fix too.
